Homeless Tech: App Increases Tracking Efficiency & More in San Diego
This story was updated at 7 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 10.

SCOTUS Rejects Last Ditch Effort to Stop Ranked Choice Voting in Maine's Presidential Election
The US Supreme Court refused to hear a last ditch attempt by Maine Republicans Tuesday to prevent ranked choice voting from being used in Maine’s presidential election -- a first in both state and US history.
The Associated Press reports that Maine Republicans filed the appeal after the first votes had already been cast. Not only have ballots been sent out to overseas voters, but additional absentee ballots were returned this week either by mail or in person.

Gloria’s Mixed Messages on Bry: ‘Too Progressive’ to GOP Voters; ‘Too Republican’ to Democratic Voters
The OB Rag joined other media in covering the misleading ads sent by Todd Gloria's campaign telling Republicans that Barbara

A Mixed-Race Girl Says ‘No’ to Proposition 16 and the Soft Bigotry of Low Expectations
My father was a Jamaican immigrant, and I was raised in poverty by my single mother. My husband is Mexican and Puerto Rican — our family is proudly multiracial. We urge Californians to vote “no” on Proposition 16 in November.
In June, amidst an unprecedented health crisis, the California Legislature proposed a dire change to our State Constitution: a repeal of Proposition 209, which passed in 1996 and prohibits California’s public sector, including universities, from discriminating against, or

How does San Diego compare to other coastal cities? Like San Francisco and Santa Barbara, San Diego is well-positioned on the beautiful Pacific coast.
Unlike these cities, San Diego has officials who seem determined to wall-off our coast and bays. San Francisco has preserved four closed military bases and an amazing 82,000 acres of prime coastal headlands – forever protected for public use. Santa Barbara's coastal hei

California Will Keep Burning. But Housing Policy Is Making It Worse
This story was originally published by ProPublica.
Monday morning, Sept. 28, California woke up sweaty, devastated, even shocked to find the state burning again. But if we’re honest, and to our great shame, no one was surprised. We’d seen this horror movie in this town. Three years ago, wildfire killed 25 people in Sonoma County. Now the Glass Fire was there, again, burning toward Santa Rosa. At 12:30 a.m., a string of seniors stood in line, many in pajamas, waiting to board an evacuation bus f
