Confirmation hearings for President-elect Donald Trump's cabinet picks began Tuesday, January 10, with U.S. Senator Jeff Sessions (R-Ala.). Sessions is Trump's pick for attorney general, the government's top prosecutor and head of the Department of Justice.
If confirmed, Sessions would manage a budget of approximately $25 billion. The Department of Justice is comprised of 40 organizations. It includes the Drug Enforcement Administration, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the U.S. Marshals, and the Federal Bureau of Prisons.
The attorney general represents the United States in legal matters, advises the president and heads of departments, and occasionally appears before the Supreme Court.
