Iowa Primary: 'Battle Ground Primary' Features Healthcare
Health care is running front and center in the three Iowa races.
Iowa went Trump in 2016, which saw the Democrats blown out of the water that year. Iowa Democrats are seeking to un-fracture their party which saw supporters defect from establishment candidate Hillary to outsider Progressive Senator Bernie Sanders in the 2016 primary caucuses. In fact, in 2016, Republicans stole the state Senate, making the state a trifecta of GOP control beginning in the 2017 legislative session.

DC-Based Indie Voters are Legally Disenfranchised from City Council Primary
If a Washington, D.C. voter doesn't interface with a party - specifically the Democratic Party - an unelected board of elections can legally declare that citizen has no right to vote for a municipal council member in the city where the citizen works and lives.
Independent voters in Washington, DC are legally disenfranchised from casting ballots in City Council elections solely on the basis of abstaining from registering allegiance with a party, official documents show.

NJ Party Bosses' Outrageous Ballot Trick to Maintain Power
In the op-ed,"The Voting Shell Game," which appeared in The Star Ledger and The Times of Trenton in February, Yael Niv highlights how a handful of unelected power brokers run our state, through alliances that benefit them, and not necessarily voters. This should be of particular concern to unaffiliated NJ voters because it’s these same power brokers from both major political parties that keep New Jersey from being an open primary state, which allows unaffiliated voters to vote in partisan primar

Mailer Mash: District 4 Mailboxes Flooded with Propaganda
"I've never received this much mail for a race and I've lived here 40 years." ~ Anonymous 4th District Voter
No question the County Board of Supervisors wields tremendous power, but as the days countdown to the June 5th primary, the amount of mail coming at voters is totally absurd.
Those paying big bucks to fill our boxes in the final days certainly hope it translates in an election day nod, but clearly those same politicos can't be bothered with the accuracy of the messages on those mail pie

Sole DC GOP Candidate: I Strongly Support Nonpartisan Open Primaries
On June 19, residents of the District of Columbia can vote in one of four party primaries: Democratic, Libertarian, DC Statehood Green, or Republican. The party with the fewest candidates in the primary is, surprisingly, the DC GOP.
Michael Bekesha, running for a council seat in Ward 6, is the only candidate for public office appearing on the party’s primary ballot. The vast majority of the District’s 27,094 registered Republicans living outside Ward 6 will be handed ballots with nothing but bl

Groundbreaking Research Debunks Myth of "Two Americas"
The media, the parties, even many academics want people to believe that political divisions run deep within the American populace. They present an image of America that is divided into two -- those on "the Right" and those on "the Left."
Yet survey results from TheChisel.com (TheChisel) show that this myth of "two Americas" is greatly exaggerated and, frankly, false. TheChisel found that "Americans' shared values far outweigh their differences."
Spearheaded by TheChisel, the research is suppor

Villaraigosa Esta Contando Con El Voto Latino ‘Independiente’ Para Asegurar Su Puesto En La Segunda Ronda

Maine: Clean Elections Campaign Says SOS Playing Dirty Partisan Politics
The Hayes for Maine campaign recently filed a legal complaint against Secretary of State Matt Dunlap, alleging that his office is stifling the campaign's ability to distribute campaign material to voters and collect Clean Elections contributions on primary election day.
At the same time, the secretary of state's office asserts that it is following the state's election laws.
Newell Augur, legal counsel for Hayes for Maine, told me in a phone conversation that they were told "in no uncertain ter

Opinion: CA Hasty Rooftop Solar Decree Could Backfire
The California Energy Commission, more or less on the fly, has decreed that beginning in 2020 all new single-family homes and low-rise multi-family residential projects must be built with rooftop solar panels.
Although they would add perhaps $10,000 to the cost of a new home, the commission insists that solar arrays would pay for themselves in lower electric power bills while helping the state meet its greenhouse gas reduction goals.
All good? Not necessarily.
