Feud over Gas Tax Repeal Escalates as Proponents Claim Ballot Error
SAN DIEGO, CALIF. - The most contentious fight over a ballot proposition can often times be over the language of the proposition itself. Supporters and opponents won't be completely satisfied, and it can lead to the spread of misinformation and confusion among voters.
Take the gas tax repeal in California -- Proposition 6. The AP reported over the weekend that LA county residents received automated phone calls suggesting that there were errors in the proposal's language. This promoted local ele

Largely Symbolic: San Francisco Spends $300K To Register Non-citizen Voters
San Diego, CALIF.- 49 signups.
That's the result of the City of San Francisco's effort to register non-citizen voters for local board of education races.
The 49 signups come to about $6,326 per sign up.
The program is the first-of-its-kind in California and followed the passage of a 2016 San Francisco ballot measure opening school elections to non-citizens who are over the age of 18, city residents and have children under age 19.
Back in July, the city began registering non-citizens — includ

Independents Aren’t Spoilers Anymore: Another Look at California’s Top-Two Primary
SAN DIEGO, CALIF. - It is nearly impossible for a candidate to run, and win, as an independent in most states. Without a party infrastructure, candidates have little to no support structure, including party member communications, party campaign finance advantages, and perhaps most importantly, the benefit of an almost universally accepted axiom: only a Republican or a Democrat can actually win.
As a result, independent and third-party candidates are most-often marginalized as “spoilers,” “quixo

New California Poll: 61% of Likely Voters Think Third Party is Needed
The Public Policy Institute of California published the results of their latest survey on "Californians & Their Government" Thursday. PPIC reports that most Californians are not satisfied with either major party, and think a third party is needed.
"As likely voters ponder who they should elect to represent them in Washington, views about the major political parties and Congress are in negative territory," said Mark Baldassare, president and CEO of PPIC.
The poll found that only 32 percent of C

Kevin Faulconer To Champion San Diego CCA Effort; "Huge Risk" For Taxpayers
San Diego, CALIF.- Politics sometimes makes strange bedfellows.
Such is the case in San Diego where Republican mayor Kevin Faulconer, is now arguably closer to the Democrats on a proposed city run energy program, than the business community that got him elected.
Faulconer announced on twitter that he will champion a new CCA program for San Diego, a program that would likely be implemented when he is out of office.

Here's How Much Republicans Hate the Democratic Establishment
SAN DIEGO, CALIF. - Is there a scenario in which Republicans would support a sanctuary state, Medicare-for-all Democrat if it meant thumbing their nose at the Democratic establishment? That appears to be happening in the California Senate race.
A new poll in California shows Dianne Feinstein with an overwhelming lead over State Senate leader Kevin de León. However, de León is leading with one group in particular -- Republicans -- and there are still many undecided voters.
Here's why this is in

2020 Initiative Could Mean The End For Backcountry Development Projects
San Diego, CALIF.- Very quietly an initiative has been placed on the 2020 ballot that if passed, would require voters countywide to approve large housing developments in the backcountry.
As we have seen with other proposed developments that are placed on the ballot, see the "old" Lilac Hills Ranch, it is all but impossible for those projects to pass.
The initiative supporters comprise 12 area environmental groups and the League of Women Voters.
The current Board of Supervisors, four of the fi
