Nationwide Shariah Education Campaign Set to Launch
While the Catholic Church may be dominating U.S. religious headlines as of right now, six of the top ten religious stories of 2011 were about Islam. With national focus on religious freedom this election cycle centered on the hot-button issue of contraception and the right of conscience, a leading American Muslim organization is gearing up to promote their own religious rights through a nationwide outreach campaign to combat Islamophobia.
The initiative, headed by the Islamic Circle of North Am

Super Tuesday Divides GOP
Winning 6 states, including the critical state of Ohio, Mitt Romney won the most Super Tuesday contests last night, followed by Santorum's 3 wins, Gingrich's single win in his home state of Georgia, while Ron Paul still awaits his first primary win. The combative nature of the primary season, however, is taking a toll on the Republican Party. Speaking of the elongated primary race, pollster Peter Hart states, “The primaries have not raised the stature of the party, nor enhanced the appeal of th

Hacking the Polls: Vulnerability in Electronic Voting Systems
Among those who advocate for the “modernization” of our voting systems, internet-based electronic voting and registration platforms are often offered as an ideal solution to the problems inherent in our current registration and voting processes. A newly published paper describes the ease with which a small group of researchers was able to hack a Washington D.C. based internet voting pilot project, demonstrating that these new systems are not ready for take-off. In 2010, the Washington D.C. Board

Condit Country's Comeback Kid
Chad Condit is announcing today a bold campaign for California's 10th Congressional District as an independent candidate. It's a region well-known as "Condit Country", specifically in the decades that his father, former Congressman Gary Condit, served the district.
Questions are inevitable regarding his family history. However, the younger Condit is confidently focused on distinguishing himself, in every sense of the word.

No Labels Tries to 'Make Congress Work'
Launched in December 2010, No Labels is a collective of people ranging the political spectrum joining together to demand change in the United States government. No Labels seeks to uphold the voice of the majority of Americans who simply want government to work effectively. This is a non-partisan endeavor which doesn’t seek to deny the basic principals of a party, but considers the increasingly polarized party system in America to be hampering true governing.

Pentagon to FAA: Send in the drones
The Pentagon wants to “desegregate” national air space. A spokesman made the announcement last week at a robotic technology conference held in Washington, D.C. Military officials say that they are working with the FAA to integrate almost 7,500 remotely piloted drones, designed for military operations overseas, into the civilian fleet of manned aircraft here at home.

When DEA agents do drugs
This weekend I traveled to Washington D.C. for CPAC, the annual conference held by the American Conservative Union and billed as the nation's largest yearly gathering of conservatives. I was there to work a booth for an independent film and to see some of the conference's speakers, but as it turned out, some of my other experiences in Washington were just as enlightening as my time at the conference, including my run-in with the DEA.
On the last day of CPAC, after spending hours on my feet at a

February 9: On the campaign trail...
Newt Gingrich (Republican): Yesterday, Newt Gingrich finished up his Ohio bus tour, with his next appearance tomorrow at the CPAC convention in Washington D.C. He has big plans for next week, as he already has eight fundraisers planned in California. Gingrich's strategy departs from his Republican rivals, in that he ignored the trio of states that voted on Tuesday and has been directing his focus to Super Tuesday. He has been keeping quiet and opte

Hyperpartisanship: The State of the Union
In his State of the Union address last week, President Obama confronted the partisan divide between the Democratic and Republican parties, calling on Congress to put ideology aside and work toward building a consensus on the most pressing issues facing the nation.
“We need to end the notion that the two parties must be locked in a perpetual campaign of mutual destruction; that politics is about clinging to rigid ideologies instead of building consensus around common-sense ideas,” said the Presi
