Delegate: RNC Rule Change Would Have Silenced Reagan in '76
Delegate: RNC Rule Change Would Have Silenced Reagan in '76
In an interview Monday, Brian Dougherty, a Republican National Convention delegate from the Pennsylvania delegation told IVN that if the controversial RNC rule change advanced by the Romney camp at this week's convention were in place in 1976, Ronald Reagan would have never risen to prominence in the GOP at the 1976 Republican convention, which set the stage for his successful presidential bid in 1980. Dougherty said: "Now these rules as they are, if they were in place in 1976, Ronald Reagan w

Mitt Romney's power over which delegates each state party sends to the national convention every four years and how they can vote. The Pennsylvania del

Constitution Party's Virgil Goode Off Pennsylvania Ballot
Constitution Party's Virgil Goode Off Pennsylvania Ballot
(Photo: zazzle.com Third party candidates have had a notoriously difficult road in America. Many supporters of former New Mexico governor Gary Johnson have objected to the black out treatment their man has received from the mainstream media despite respectable poll numbers in his native state. The coverage of the Constitution Party's Virgil Goode has mostly been relegated to the notion that the former congressman might siphon enough of the vote in his native Virginia and neighboring North Caro

The Road to 270 Electoral Votes in 2012
Credit: realclearpolitics.com The presidential race is won by obtaining 270 of the 538 votes in the Electoral College. President Barack Obama and Republican candidate Mitt Romney are campaigning relentlessly, but much of their focus is on battleground/swing states. Pennsylvania Drops Plans for Online Voter Registration
Photo: sfcitizen.com The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, expected to be an important swing state in 2012, has made headlines all week for a controversial voter ID law backed by the state's Republicans. Critics are calling it a partisan ploy to restrict ballot access and fix the results of November's general election in favor of Republican candidates, including presumptive presidential nominee, Governor Mitt Romney. But on the same day that a judge ruled in favor of Pennsylvania's voter ID law, a

Voter ID Law May Yet Fail in Pennsylvania
Pennsylvania Democrats Voter Guide Credit: padems.com The victory dance by some this week when Pennsylvania’s controversial voter ID law survived its first court test may prove premature, since the law still faces at least three other likely legal challenges. The Public Interest Law Center of Philadelphia has already filed an appeal to the Pennsylvania Supreme Court, seeking to reverse the August 15 decision of Judge Robert Simpson, denying an injunction to prevent the law from taking effect,

Appeal for Pennsylvania Voter ID Law Short on Time
Pennsylvania Commonwealth Court Judge Robert Simpson upheld the state's contested Voter ID law this week. Republican backers of Pennsylvania’s Voter ID Law are claiming victory in a court battle over a new photo id requirement that was upheld earlier this week, while multiple voter rights groups and registered voters filed an appeal against the ruling on Thursday. The appeal will be tricky to maneuver. Four votes by Pennsylvania Supreme Court justices will be required to overturn the ruling.

Voter ID Ruling Outsmarts the Law, For Now
Voter ID Ruling Outsmarts the Law, For Now
Credit: csmonitor.com Across the media, the headlines got it wrong when they claimed “Judge Upholds Voter ID Law in Pennsylvania,” or some variation of that assertion. Even though it took Commonwealth Court Judge Robert Simpson some 70 pages to explain his decision, the decision did not “uphold” the law. The decision only denied the plaintiffs’ application for a preliminary injunction. The grounds were as simple as they were legalistic: Judge Simpson found no basis for suspending the law at on
