I Miss Anthony Kennedy Already
I miss Anthony Kennedy already. Other people have written eloquently about Kennedy’s contributions to the Supreme Court. After the retirement of Sandra Day O’Connor (whom I miss, too), Kennedy became the swing vote in case after case.
When a seminal case was argued before the high court, Kennedy was the justice who had to be persuaded. When a 5-4 decision came down, Kennedy was usually that crucial fifth vote. Sometimes he voted with the more liberal wing of the court; sometimes he voted with t

Yellow Journalism? VICE Produces Emotional Spot On Insulin Pricing With No Facts
VICE News produced a 5 minute video for its HBO series following a Colorado diabetes patient who is testifying at the state capitol in favor of a bill which would require insulin manufacturers to disclose insulin pricing information.
In producing the VICE video, correspondent Hamilton Morris has delivered a high-quality and emotionally engaging production. The only problem? It is factually lacking.

Independents Boost Historic Primary Turnout in Colorado
Colorado voters went to the polls Tuesday for the 2018 midterm primary elections. It was the first major primary season independents were allowed to participate in without re-registering with one of the major parties since Proposition 108 passed in 2016.
Midterm primaries historically don't have as high of turnout as presidential primaries, but Colorado saw historic participation in 2018.
With 98.4% of precincts reporting, 1,142,008 ballots have been counted statewide. That is nearly 35% of ac

SCOTUS Renders Its Own "State of the Union" in Janus Decision
SAN DIEGO, CALIF. – The United States Supreme Court’s ruling in Janus v. AFSCME may serve as a landmark decision. While traditional media outlets and the Democratic establishment are already discrediting the decision, the gnashing of teeth may be relatively short-sighted. The very basis of this decision could be used as precedent to attack the Court’s decision in Citizens United v. Federal Election Commission, 558 U.S. 310 (2010).
Both cases were predicated on First Amendment protections. The J

Half of America's Healthcare Spending Goes to Sickest 5%
In 2016, Americans spent nearly as much on healthcare as Germans spent on everything. At $3.3 trillion dollars, America’s healthcare spending is almost as much as the entire gross domestic product (GDP) of the world’s fourth largest economy.
Given that America’s healthcare spending would be the world’s fifth largest economy on its own, it is not difficult to figure out that America spends more on healthcare for its people than any other country. On a per capita basis, the U.S. spent $10,348 in

You Thought Superdelegates Were Bad? DNC Invents Even More Ways to Block Bernie 2020
Now the Democrats can end Bernie Sanders' presidential campaign before it even begins.
In an unanimous vote on June 8, the DNC Rules and Bylaws Committee gave the Democratic Party the power to block Sen. Bernie Sanders and any other progressive from running in the 2020 Democratic presidential primary.

Generation "I": CO Candidate Says Millennials Will Dismantle Two-Party Duopoly
Peter Smith is an independent candidate running in Colorado State Senate District 32. He is the youngest candidate running for state office and would be the youngest member of the state legislature if elected in November.
Peter is a Millennial -- a label most candidates his age would treat as an albatross around their necks. Not Peter. He embraces the label "Millennial" as much as his "independent" political identification.
Millennials, from his perspective, are leading the independent revolut

Mark Cuban: Both Parties ARE the Swamp
There has long been speculation that US businessman Mark Cuban might run for president as an independent or third party candidate in 2020.
While there is a giant question mark over a potential presidential run, it's certainly clear that Cuban believes something needs to be done to break up the two-party duopoly:

And Cuban went on for several tweets about the need to unite as Americans and reject tribalistic politics and the two-party status
