What to focus on:

• Three JROTC cadets who acted heroically during the school shooting in Parkland, Florida, were awarded medals of heroism by the U.S. Army. One, Peter Wang, whose dream was to attend the United States Military Academy, commonly known as West Point, was posthumously admitted to the school.
• In the wake of the shooting mentioned above, President Trump signed a memorandum instructing the attorney general to regulate the use of bump stocks, effectively banning the use of the devices that can allow rifles to mimic automatic weapons.
• Another effect of the shooting was a conversation to arm teachers in an effort to provide security at schools. Teachers across the nation have reacted with a campaign under the hashtag #ArmMeWith. For this campaign, teachers argue for better resources to combat some causes of the violence, such as mental health access, better counselors, and smaller class sizes.
• More news came out of the Russia Probe last week, with a former senior official in Donald Trump’s 2016 presidential campaign, Rick Gates, pleading guilty to conspiracy against the United States and lying to investigators. As part of the plea deal, he will help Federal Investigators as they continue the probe.
