None of the independent campaigns we tracked on IVN won on an election night that saw a blue tsunami lead the Democrats to take a solid majority in both chambers of Congress. Six races have been called, and Alaska’s remains open. Results are unofficial, and votes are still being counted in several states, but as of about 7am ET:
- Nebraska Senate: Sen. Pete Ricketts (R) leads Dan Osborn 50.4%–43.7%, with 98% of precincts reporting. AP called the race for Ricketts.
- Montana Senate: Kurt Alme (R) has 48.5%, Seth Bodnar 37.7% and Democrat Alani Bankhead 12.0%. AP called it for Alme, and Bodnar conceded.
- Idaho Senate: Sen. Jim Risch (R) leads Todd Achilles 56.5%–33.7%, with independent Natalie Fleming at 6.9%. AP called it for Risch, and Achilles conceded.
- South Dakota Senate: Sen. Mike Rounds (R) leads Brian Bengs 60.5%–39.5%. AP called it for Rounds.
- Alaska At-Large House (not called): On first choices, Rep. Nick Begich (R) leads Bill Hill 50.0%–40.1%, with 70% of precincts reporting. Tens of thousands of ballots remain. If no one clears 50%, ranked-choice tabulation is Nov. 18.
- Wisconsin 6th: Rep. Glenn Grothman (R) has 52.8%, Democrat Brad Smith 43.3% and Mike Thurow 1.2%. AP called it for Grothman.
- California 6th: Democrat Richard Pan leads Rep. Kevin Kiley 57.5%–42.5%. AP called it for Pan, and Kiley conceded. The US House of Representatives again lacks an independent.
