Richard Roth wins in SD 31 with 53 percent of the vote. His opponent Jeff Miller collected 46 percent of the vote with 100 percent of precincts reporting. The race opposed Republican Assembly Member Jeff Miller and Democrat Richard Roth in the newly redistricted 31st district.

This Senate race has been of major importance as it is one of the few races that will determine if the Democrats reach the 27 super majority which would give them the power to override the Governor and the House on taxes and other issues. As the republicans and the democrats are nearly tied in terms of voter registrations, the outcome has been uncertain all along the campaign.

Because of its importance this race is one of, if not the, most expensive legislative contest this year with close to $8 millions. All the money paid for the waves of mailers, TV ads, and radio ads necessary to convince the voters to go one side or the other.

Richard Roth's priorities have been creating jobs within the Inland and across California, opening the UC Riverside medical school. Veterans, schools, women's rights and the environment are among others topics highlighted by his campaign. Jeff Miller's campaign concentrated on making California more business friendly for small businesses in order to create jobs. His other top 3 priorities were to stop growing government, invest in public safety, and reduce the tax burden on small businesses, working families, and retirees.

Jeff Miller, is currently an Assemblyman representing the 71th Assembly District. He has been holding this position since 2008. He previously served as Park Commissioner for Corona before being elected Mayor and Council Member of Corona for 8 years. He also served as co-chair of the Jessica Law campaign in 2005 that reformed the penal code in regards to sexual predators. He has been a long time businessman and small business owner.

Richard Roth, served in the Military for 32 years, working in the Air Force and the Air Force JAG. He retired in 2007 with the rank of Major General. He is now a practicing attorney and small business owner as well as a Lawyer Representative to the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals Judicial Conference.
