California to Benefit the Most From Drone Integration
The integration of Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS) or drones in US Airspace, planned for 2015, would have a significant impact on the country's economy. Among all states, California would be the state to benefit the most from such integration.
The New Yorker released an interactive map of the United States according to how much economic impact the integration of UAS would have on each state. The data used for the map was provided by the Association for Unmanned Vehicles System International (AUVS

Conservatives Divided on How Fair the Marketplace Fairness Act Really Is
Credit: http://moopz.com/
Last week, the Senate overwhelmingly voted to pass the "Marketplace Fairness Act," better known as the Internet sales tax, 69-27. Framed as a move toward "leveling the playing field," the bill has sparked some debate among Republicans.
Many conservatives felt betrayed when it was revealed that 22 GOP senators voted in favor of giving states the power to force online retailers, with sales of over $1 million per year, to collect sales taxes from customers even if the c

Tough Day To Be A Liberal
I'd like to be discussing global warming. Scientists at the Scripps Institute of Oceanography in Hawaii recently reported that global levels of atmosperic CO2 are at the highest levels in 2-4 million years (but who's counting?) I'd enjoy talking about the Republicans in Congress who ignore the empirical evidence and the research of thousands of climatologists who all agree on global warming, while they take their walking orders and bullet points from the Koch brothers and the oil lobby.

Texas Taxpayers Paying for Private Elections with Public Dollars
(TEXAS) - Last week, the Texas House passed a bill that would have the government pay for partisan primaries directly, instead of reimbursing the parties for their expanses (HB 3065). In most states, the government administers and pays for the costs of holding partisan primary elections. However, in Texas, the parties administer their own primaries, then they get reimbursed from the state for their expenses.
From the Texas Legislature's Committee Analysis:"C.S.H.B. 3065 amends the Election Cod

How Immigration Reform Affects Drone Use in Southwest States
Credit: Gerald Nino
Immigration reform and drones are among the most highly discussed issues in the country. For states bordering Mexico, the two issues are becoming one.
One of the major component of the immigration reform bill proposed by the "Gang of Eight" in Congress is increasing border security -- especially with Mexico. The bill allocates $6.5 billion to this goal, which would not only include the deployment of helicopter and horse patrol at the Southwest border region, but also a grea

'Come and Take It' Gun Enforcement Bill Passes Texas House
Credit: TexasObserver.org
House Bill 928, also known as the "Come and Take It" law, passed the Texas House on May 8. The legislation mandates that no state money can be spent to enforce federal firearm regulations that do not also exist in state law and is a push-back against proposed federal rules on firearms and ammunition. However, it does not penalize state law enforcement officers who help the feds.
The legislation was written by Republican Representatives Matt Krause (R-Arlington), Scott
