Majority of Americans Support Semi-Automatic Weapons Ban
The recent tragedy in Aurora, Colorado has prompted a variety of responses from lawmakers on the issue of gun control and a semi-automatic weapons ban. Senator Dianne Feinstein said Sunday on Fox News Sunday, "weapons of war don't belong on the streets."
New York mayor Bloomberg called on President Obama to act. "Yes, we have great sympathy for the families, but it's time for this country to do something," Bloomberg said on CBS. "And that's the job of the president of the United States."

Shootings Highlight Mental Health Policy, Not Just Guns
As a Coloradan, I am heartbroken over the massacre that took place at Century 16 in Aurora. It is senseless, as are so many things. When a violent action takes the lives of innocents, we ask ourselves why someone would do this and how can we stop it from happening again.
The sad reality is that you cannot stop every destructive action of mentally ill people who are prone to violence. There are no laws that can be written and enforced with a 100% success rate that can stop human beings from acti

Barack Obama and Mitt Romney Ignore Issues of Transparency
(Photo: Reuters)
Is it any surprise that in a presidential election in which the differences between the candidates are so miniscule that the discourse has been reduced to a battle of releasing personal information?
Earlier this week Maricopa County (Arizona) sheriff Joe Arpaio renewed discussion of President Obama's citizenship by conducting his own investigation and stating that the president's birth certificate is "definitely fraudulent."
Without missing a beat Donald Trump jumped in too,

Michele Bachmann's McCarthy-esque Conspiracy Under Attack
A firestorm of criticism is coming to a head over a letter sent by one-time Republican presidential hopeful Rep. Michele Bachmann and four other GOP lawmakers to various government agencies alleging an elaborate government infiltration by the Muslim Brotherhood organization. One such letter was sent to the State Department's Deputy Inspector General. In the letter, Secretary of State Hilary Clinton's deputy chief of staff and longtime aide, Huma Abiden, is singled out.

Oops! VT Gov Candidate Boosts Incumbent's Accomplishments

Randy Brock, Republican candidate for Vermont Governor, probably didn't mean it to come out this way, but his successful Friday fundraising pitch that focused on Republican Governors turns out to be a boost for current Vermont Governor, Democrat Peter Shumlin. Or so it seems to anyone paying attention.
The center of Brock’s pitch is that “a recent study showed that of the 17 states that elected Republican governors in 2010, every single one has reduced its unemployment rate.”

California TRUST Act Builds Wall Around Secure Communities
[Last week], the California Senate passed the TRUST Act. Known by some as the “anti-Arizona immigration law,” it would limit California law enforcement’s cooperation with the federal Secure Communities program. The TRUST Act is positive news for California budgets, residents of the state, and police departments that practice community-policing strategies.
The TRUST Act is an improvement for three main reasons:

Taser Deaths in Vermont: Time for a Moratorium
Taser deaths by police in Vermont and elsewhere clearly show that it is time for a moratorium on what the UN calls a "torture weapon."
On the evening of June 20th in Thetford VT, Macadam Mason was just another all-but-anonymous 39-year-old artist, an alcoholic sober three years, a father of three who had epilepsy and mental health issues in the bargain. He’d had a grand mal seizure the day before and was suffering what, for him, were the typical disorienting after effects that usually lasted f

Eric Holder Held in Contempt on ATF Involvement in Gunwalking
The House has found Attorney General Eric Holder guilty of contempt of Congress by a vote of 255-67 for refusing to turn over documents related to the Fast and Furious gunwalking scandal. Thus, the U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia may now have the legal obligation to put his boss, Eric Holder before a grand jury. We are in murky legal waters, as this is the first time the full House has found an Attorney General in contempt.
Indeed, almost everything about the gunwalking scandal is m
