Presidential Election Update: It's All About the Delegates
Mitt Romney won the popular vote last night in both the Michigan and Arizona primaries. But while his victory in Arizona's winner-take-all primary guarantees him all 29 delegates, Michigan's delegate distribution is not so simple. Kymberly Bays explains:
Michigan hosts an open primary where any registered voter, regardless of party preferences, can participate. The state has a total of 30 delegates. The statewide winner will get two. The remaining 28 Michigan delegates will be chosen 2-by-2 in

Michigan Primary Critical to GOP Candidates
All eyes on Michigan today, as the state holds its primary in what has been labeled Romney's first must-win primary. Michigan's polls show Romney and Santorum neck and neck, making today's primary critical. Another wild card is the fact that Michigan's primary is open, meaning Democrats and Independents can participate. Arizona voters also hit the polls today in what appears to be a safe win for Romney. Combined, 59 delegates are up for grabs in today's primaries.

Republican Primary: Spotlight on Delegate Count
While most Republicans, according to recent polls, are adamantly opposed to a brokered convention, given the new party nominating rules it is highly unlikely that the primary process will be wrapped up quickly.
Newt Gingrich predicted at this weekend's California Republican Convention that the presidential primary season may well extend to California, putting the state's 172 delegates into play in June.
2012 could host an unusually prolonged primary season for a presidential race in recent his

Presidential Election 2012 Update: Looking ahead to Michigan and Arizona
Tomorrow, Arizona and Michigan will hold their primary elections in what could amount to Mitt Romney's make-or-break moment in the 2012 election. Born and raised in Michigan, this state's primary is critical to Romney's campaign, but it may be a tough win for the candidate, who is neck and neck with opponent Rick Santorum in the most recent poll. The forgotten primary of Arizona could be one of the least watched races of the election, with Romney leading in the polls by 8 percentage points.

Gallup: Republican voters don’t want brokered convention
Republican voters may have negative sentiments toward the current field of GOP presidential hopefuls, but the latest Gallup polling data shows that a majority of these voters prefer the final nominee to come from the current pack and would prefer not to head into a brokered GOP convention in August.

Congressman McCotter issues warning over brokered convention
Thaddeus McCotter, former Republican presidential candidate and current Michigan congressman, recently warned about the GOP establishment maneuvering the 2012 presidential campaign toward a brokered convention in which party insiders hand pick a “new face” nominee.

GM's success may argue for national industrial policy
GM’s record earnings announced just ahead of the Michigan GOP primary have put Republicans in general and Mitt Romney in particular in a political bind. Romney famously opposed the GM and Chrysler bailouts saying that failing companies should be allowed to fail. In recent days, Romney has been forced to defend his view that the free market should have been allowed to work in the case of the U.S. auto industry. Meanwhile, President Obama is taking victory laps over the success of the governmen
