Oops! VT Gov Candidate Boosts Incumbent's Accomplishments
Credit: maps.com Randy Brock, Republican candidate for Vermont Governor, probably didn't mean it to come out this way, but his successful Friday fundraising pitch that focused on Republican Governors turns out to be a boost for current Vermont Governor, Democrat Peter Shumlin. Or so it seems to anyone paying attention. The center of Brock’s pitch is that “a recent study showed that of the 17 states that elected Republican governors in 2010, every single one has reduced its unemployment rate.”

Comic Con Special: How Would Your Favorite Superhero Vote?
Comic Con Special: How Would Your Favorite Superhero Vote?
Superheroes are a big topic as 2012's Comic Con comes to a close today. It’s obvious that politics and comics have always had a special relationship from propaganda to socio-political commentary. So where exactly would each of our beloved superheroes lie on the political thought spectrum? David Long, a comic blogger, wrote an article in 2006 listing the probable political party affiliation for all of our super hero favorites. It inspired us, so here is our version. Iron Man Let’s start with th

Voter Suppression, By the Numbers
Voter Suppression, By the Numbers
This election, an estimated five million eligible voters will be disenfranchised from the political process due to new voter identification laws. These de-facto voter suppression laws not only make it harder to register to vote, but also place restrictions on voting, creating an obstacle to eligible voters who lack government issued identification. The Brennan Center for Justice released a study in which they outlined the changes in voting laws we face in the 2012 election and the adverse affec

Larry Lucchino & Camden Yards
Larry Lucchino & Camden Yards
On April 6, 1992, the first major league game was played at Oriole Park at Camden Yards, ushering in a new era for Baltimore and its beloved O’s. From the day it opened through Sunday’s game with the Nationals, 45,894,621 people have seen the O’s play at Camden. But the joy and triumph of that historic moment wasn’t Baltimore’s or Maryland’s alone, but one belonging to all of baseball – America’s Game. The creation of Oriole Park at Camden Yards would initiate a revolution in retro-ballparks,

Rick Santorum: Ron Paul \Looking for a Platform Fight\
In light of former Senator Rick Santorum's recent comments on ABC's This Week, it is clear GOP social conservatives are becoming increasingly worried about the presence, and power, of Dr. Ron Paul at the Republican National Convention. In the case of a divided Republican Party, if Governor Mitt Romney is going to have to choose between Dr. Paul and Sen. Santorum in Tampa, he has to go with Dr. Paul. In an earlier posting by IVN, we pointed out that at some point Gov. Romney was going to have to

Rejoice, Young Kansans! Happy Hour Returns!
As Pitch reports: "A series of new liquor laws signed by Gov. Sam Brownback go into effect July 1, among them a new happy-hour provision that allows for drink specials that don't have to be offered for an entire day (as the current law reads)." Other things Gov. Brownback has been up to? Joking about outlawing Justin Bieber and preparing to speak at the National Right to Life Committee convention.

"It’s great to be with you and I am delighted my good friend George Mitrovich asked me to speak to The Forum today. I came to Denver to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Migrant Workers Health Act at the Community Health Center Convention. Celebrations are a wonderful time to look at what our country valued a half century ago – and to compare it to the values of our own time. In the anti-im

Labor Rule Reversal Praised by Agricultural Stakeholders
Directed by the Obama Administration to abandon a proposed change to its regulatory code, the Labor Department has announced that it will not enforce new rules designed to limit the type of work minors can perform on family farms. For those under the age of 18, the proposal would have prohibited employment in country grain elevators, grain bins, silo
