Ron Paul storms California Republican straw poll
As media-christened "frontrunners" Gov. Rick Perry and Mitt Romney went missing from the California Republican Party's Fall convention, Texas Congressman Ron Paul seized the day by capturing another straw poll.  As announced by Tom Del Beccaro, chairman of the California Republican Party (CRP), Congressman Paul won 44.9% of the vote with 374 ballots cast for him. Texas Governor Rick Perry came in a distant second by winning 29.3% of the vote and with 244 ballots cast in his favor. Former Governo

California's Tea Party voters chime in on presidential field ahead of state GOP convention
As the California GOP's fall convention is set to take place this weekend in Los Angeles, a Field Poll study finds big differences in the state's Republican voter preferences for President based on how much these voters identify with the Tea Party. California Republican voters who identify a lot with the movement prefer Texas Governor Rick Perry over former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney by 33% to 23%. Romney, on the other hand, leads Perry by ten points among Republicans who identify only

The Chandler classroom conundrum
The Chandler classroom conundrum
It’s hard to tell whether Chandler, Arizona’s popular technology-driven classroom program is the wave-of-the-future, an expensive failure or something in between.  According to the New York Times: “The class, and the Kanye School District as a whole, offer what some see as a utopian vision of education’s future. Classrooms are decked out with laptops, big interactive screens and software that drills students on every basic subject.” Thus far, standardized tests show Chandler’s schools performi

Rasmussen: Unaffiliated voters rise to their highest level ever
On the same day that a small earthquake shook the San Fernando Valley, a recent Rasmussen Reports study of partisan trends indicates that unaffiliated voters will likely be shaking up the nation's political landscape. Voters not affiliated with either party grew from 32.1% in July to 33.5% in August, which Rasmussen notes as being the highest level in its seven years of tracking. Interesting to note is that the ranks of these unaffiliateds grew as Republicans and Democrats duked it out over rai

Rick Perry: Stand by your stands
The Republican presidential candidate who has made himself look more like Billy Graham than Barry Goldwater has taken a substantive lead in the polls as reported in recent days by Zogby, Quinnipiac, Rasmussen and Gallup.  The momentum appears to be going the Texas governor's way, at least in this early stage. In the latest Gallup Poll, Perry leaped over Mitt Romney to take a commanding 12 point lead and garner 29 percent of the vote.  He eclipsed solid performer Ron Paul by 16 points and left

Brown. California Democratic Assemblywoman Toni Atkins confirmed Friday that the bill had passed the state Senate Appropriations Committee by a vote of 6 to 3. Supporters expect the bill to be fast-tracked to the Senate floor for a full v

Young Turks host defends Ron Paul from Bill O'Reilly
As the "mainstream media" has taken heat for not giving enough coverage to presidential candidate Rep. Ron Paul, a valid assertion backed by the numbers, progressive talk show host Cenk Uygur defended the Texas Congressman for not appearing on Bill O'Reilly's Fox News television show. "Ron Paul's afraid of a debate? That's ridiculous, right? I have no idea why he's not going on Bill O'Reilly's program, you know. But that's O'Reilly's favorite trick to get guests on. He'll call them out," Uygur

Arizona looks to effectively manage its water supply in the Sun Corridor
Arizona possesses enough water in Pima, Pinal, and Maricopa counties to support 4.3 million people, says a report from the Morrison Institute for Public Policy at ASU. But to do so, all commercial farming would have to vanish. This could presage yet another chapter in the eternal water wars between city and rural interests. The Institute is not taking sides, but rather is suggesting that while the Sun Corridor won't run out of water, it does face serious challenges. Among them is the variabilit

Poll: Double digit support for hypothetical Independent Presidential candidates
Late last week, Public Policy Polling released the results of a survey gauging support for seven potential Independent candidates for President in 2012.  Four out of the seven polled in the double digits, despite the fact that none has definitively stated an intention to seek the nation's highest office as an Independent. The automated survey of 700 registered voters was conducted between August 18th and August 21st.  The poll asked respondents how they would vote in seven different hypothetica

Rasmussen: Ron Paul in dead heat with President Obama in hypothetical 2012 race
A recent Rasmussen survey of likely U.S. voters found that Texas Congressman Dr. Ron Paul runs practically dead even with President Barack Obama in a hypothetical head-to-head 2012 White House race. Additionally, the poll data suggests that the Tea Party 'Godfather' may stand in the way of another Tea Party superstar and potential presidential candidate, Sarah Palin. Rasmussen Reports asked the following in a telephone survey conducted of 1,000 Likely Voters from August 15-16, 2011: "What if t
