Mitt Romney Has No Practical Reason to Select Ron Paul as His Running Mate
Over at Reason, A. Barton Hinkle thinks there is a case for Mitt Romney to select Ron Paul as his running mate:
'And that's one thing Paul would bring to the Romney ticket which it lacks now: intensity. . . .Picking Paul as his running mate would enable Romney to draft the Texas congressman's revolutionary army--or at least a good portion of it.It also would give the ticket something else it has lacked up to this point: spine. Romney is notorious for changing his positions on the issues. Paul

President Obama's Stance on Gay Marriage: Prompted by Political Donations?
For the last few days I have been thinking about President Obama's stance on gay marriage. As much as I want to stand up and cheer for him I really have to do it with reservations. As an LGBTQA activist I have to pose the question to the president: Why are you making such a statement at this juncture versus making one two years ago? Understandably the president is figuring out ways to handle our nation's economic crisis, conflicts in the Middle East, and wanting to be re-elected as president. On

Female Voters May Decide Outcome of 2012 Election
Voter turnout rates of women have exceeded that of men in past elections. According to the Reuters Center for American Women and Politics, every presidential election since 1980 has seen the number of female voters surpass that of males by between four to seven million votes. In every election prior to 1980, men were the ones to cast the majority of votes.
Despite the higher turnout of women voters, election statistics have failed to prove that women’s votes have actually altered the outcome of

Ron Paul and Political Mavericks: Why Party Establishments Oppose Them
This entire election cycle, the Ron Paul campaign has been fighting an empirically proven and documented media black out. Ron Paul supporters understandably complain about how the mainstream media has ignored him. But this is not the only challenge faced by his campaign. What is more troubling is how the Texas congressman's own party has treated his campaign.
Here's the good news, Ron: It's nothing personal. The bad news for Independent voters is that the reaction to his campaign is just one ex

Gary Condit & Modesto Bee Op-Ed: Race in CD-10 Could Make History
As campaigns under California's new open primary begin to take shape, the implications of the new electoral process are starting to make themselves more apparent. This year, all voters can vote for any candidate, regardless of party affiliation and only the top-two vote-getting candidates will compete in the general election.
Yesterday, an opinion editorial in the Modesto Bee by UC Merced political science professor Nathan W. Monroe called attention to the race in the Central Valley's 10th Cong

Ron Paul Delegates Set to Mount First Ballot Upset at GOP National Convention
Reports of Ron Paul's demise have been greatly exaggerated. While a Monday email sent to reporters regarding Ron Paul's election strategy has been widely interpreted and spun as the Texas congressman's withdrawal from the Republican primary-- with The Drudge Report running the misleading headline "Paul Out," and Fox News Channel's Shep Smith misreporting that Ron Paul is now "out of the race" --the email simply formalized and publicized the Paul campaign's "guerrilla" delegate strategy of focusi

Equal Protection: The Supreme Decision
So North Carolina voters approved a ballot measure that prohibits same-sex marriages within the state. It became the last southern state to do so... and the 31st overall. It was done during the primary election instead of the general election because the Republican-controlled legislature knew that Democratic turn-out during the primary would be low since there was no real primary taking place within that party. Even so, the vote was close to a 60-40 split. A couple of days later, President O

Romney, Ron Paul & RNC Rules
The blogosphere is in a flurry today on the heels of the Ron Paul campaign announcement. Concerning its future in states yet to hold Republican primary elections, it looks like Dr. Paul will not be pouring money into these contests as he has continued to do. Is he done, completely? Or will he continue amassing what have been called "stealth delegates"? Even without an "official" campaign effort in states like Texas and California, can Dr. Paul continue to siphon a sizable chunk of Republican sup

Ron Paul Halts Spending on Presidential Campaign
In an email sent to reporters Monday morning, Texas Congressman Ron Paul announced he is suspending his campaign in the remaining 11 primary states. He cited a lack of resources as the cause, explaining that participating in the primary states "would take many tens of millions of dollars we simply do not have." He will, however, continue to "take leadership positions, win delegates, and carry a strong message to the Republican National Convention that Liberty is the way of the future.”
