* "Following this week’s government shutdown and the 2016 election, in which both parties nominated historically unpopular candidates, there’s new energy in the movement to reclaim the political center."

Top Election Reformers Join Forces to Fix What Hyper-Partisanship Has Broken
Last weekend’s brief shutdown of our federal government pointed to the hyper-partisanship and paralysis that plagues our federal government.
“Why,” wonder many people, “can’t these people just stop arguing and start doing the people’s work?”
Ironically, just this week the National Association of Non-Partisan Reformers (NANR) announced its launch. It’s a group of individuals and election reform organizations dedicated to increasing electoral competition and voter choice.

Biggest Myth in US Politics: America Needs a Two-Party System
Ever heard this joke? “American politics is like a highway of progress. Republicans stand on the right saying turn right, Democrats stand on the left saying turn left, and Independents stand in the middle, hopelessly waiting to be ran over.”
If you haven’t heard it, you have now, and you probably understand why people think it’s humorous.
Many believe the two-party system is the way for American politics, not a way. We’ve dealt with two parties for so long (and they’ve gamed the system for man

Can We Shut Down the Two-Party System?
Update: The Senate voted Monday to reopen the government, and extend funding until February 8, setting up yet another potential shutdown fight.
The recent government shutdown is only the latest manifestation of the partisan logjam gripping America, and sure not to be the last. All the political rhetoric over the past few years — ever since the rise of the Tea Party and the subsequent focus on emotions over results — has been driving us to this point, and it was obvious.
Sadly, it may have also

Is Colorado Looking At Its First Independent Congressman?
Independent candidate Nick Thomas is optimistic about his chances in Colorado's 2nd Congressional District, and the timing of his candidacy may be just right.
The 2nd Congressional District is considered by most politicos to be the most left-leaning district in Colorado. It was heavily gerrymandered to be a deep shade of blue, and has over 172,000 registered Democrats, compared to nearly 136,000 Republicans (December 2017 numbers).
Still, much like the state, the largest registered voting bloc
