The Youth Vote Unlikely To Be Strong Enough to Sway Election

The youth vote has the power to sway the 2012 elections but the millennial generation is not as likely to show up this Election Day.
In 2008, the youth vote gave Obama an edge over McCain. Arthur Levine and Diane Dean, authors of "Generation on a Tightrope: A Portrait of Today's College Students," told Huffington Post that in 10 of the 12 battleground states, the numbers of college students a

Top Ten Most Partisan Members of Congress
(Photo: ABC News)
While there is no mathematical formula for calculating partisanship, both party-line voting and ideology were considered in finding the ten most partisan members of Congress.
In determining a Republican's partisanship, his score from the American Conservative Union (ACU) and the percentage of the time that he voted with his party, according to OpenCongress.org, were factored. For example, an ACU annual score of 95% or higher and voting with the party at least 96% of the time

Sam the Cooking Guy Announces 2012 Orchids and Onions Awards
From the ahi tacos, to the orchid martinis, the food was almost as inspirational as the architecture. But nothing could top the light-hearted mood set by Sam the Cooking Guy at the Museum of Contemporary Art for the San Diego Architectural Foundation’s (SDAF) annual Orchids and Onions Awards.

Voter Registration Modernization Makes Process Easier
The voter registration process in America had remained relatively stolid, unaltered, and outdated until technology advanced enough for its progression. With the advent of the internet, automated databases, as well as same day registration, the registration process now technically allots for more lax deadlines. These methods are referred to as “Voter Registration Modernization,” or VRM, of which nearly every state has adopted some form.
Much like people, states tend to follow trends – once one s

At Debate, Romney Plays for Independents and Moderates
Credit: Gage Skidmore
There is little unanimity in American politics, but one instance is that former Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney won the first presidential debate last week in Denver.
Fred Barnes of the Weekly Standard praised Wednesday as "the best night of Romney's bid for the presidency and that includes his 2008 campaign." National Review editor Rich Lowry commended that Romney, "not only won on substance, but won on optics, demeanor, and emotion. He flat-out won." Comedian and Oba

Bipartisan Cooperation Reduces Ohio Drug Penalties
In a bipartisan effort to abate overcrowding in state prisons, Ohio’s Senate Bill 337 went into effect last week, reducing Ohio drug penalties and giving convicted felons a second chance at employment.
The measure, which was signed into law by Gov. John Kasich (R) and sponsored by Sen. Shirley Smith (D) and Sen. Bill Seitz (R) last June, was overwhelmingly approved by both houses of the General Assembly.
The primary purpose of the legislation is to eliminate some of the employment barriers tha

Raglan Public House Caters to "Yanks": No Ketchup Necessary
A good burger/beer combo is not exactly a rare find in San Diego, but the places that do it right tend to build up an almost cult following. Throw a beach community into the mix, some New Zealand surf-shack memorabilia, a rustic indoor/outdoor dining area, plus astro-turf, and there is Raglan Public House in Ocean Beach.
"Raglan," named after a town with an infamous point break in New Zealand, opened up shop February 3 off Bacon Street in Ocean Beach. Closely located to the Newport Avenue bu

Obama Surges, But Without Independent Voters in Swing States
Photo: Gage Skidmore
Mainstream media buzzed Wednesday morning with news of the latest Quinnipiac poll results in the key swing states of Florida, Pennsylvania, and Ohio. The newest polls find President Obama surging in these states, which have a combined electoral vote total that will make it difficult for either Obama or Mitt Romney to win the election without winning at least two of the three. No presidential candidate has won without taking at least two since 1960.

Why Tuesday?
This year, it falls on November 6... which, as always, is a Tuesday. It's Election Day. But why does our election day fall on a Tuesday of all the days of the week? In a time when we are fighting against voter turnout that only gets around 50%, shouldn't we think about moving the day?
Election Day was officially set up by Congress in 1845. Before that, Congress permitted states to conduct presidential elections at any time in a 34-day period before the first Wednesday of December. But as c
