Is It Time to Sunset the Constitution?
The Independent Voter Network is a great resource for all of us that are tired of the two-party system. It allows for various dialogues and debates on a variety of topics, and gives voice to every point of view - while holding to a 4-point etiquette that governs all conduct on the site. It provides a platform for civil discourse on a multitude of concerns that so many of us share.
I read the vast majority of comments on various articles, as I am interested in acquiring the pulse of the IVN read

District of Columbia: Where The Feds Will Take Your Money But Won't Give You Representation
In the United States, every citizen over the age of 18 has the right to vote a congressman or congresswoman into office to represent the interests of his or her district -- except for roughly 650,000 citizens who have the misfortune of living within a 100 square mile grid surrounding the nation’s capitol.
Although the city of Washington, D.C. has a congresswoman -- U.S. Rep. Eleanor Holmes Norton -- she is a non-voting delegate. Unlike territories like Guam or Puerto Rico that also have a non-v

Video: The Two-Party System is Not Working for The People
Is a third political party straining to break out in America? That is the question posed by the Wall Street Journal's Washington bureau chief, Gerald Seib, in a June 1 column. His answer was a clear "yes." But the real question is why?According to Ambassador James K. Glassman, it's because "an independent, or third-party, candidate has not the slightest chance of getting to the White House or even seriously influencing the policies espoused by the two major party candidates."In a column penned fo

Bipartisan Amendments Offer More Privacy Protections than USA Freedom Act
A bipartisan team of legislators have passed amendments with a goal of retaining privacy protections presumably lost with the passage of the USA Freedom Act.
Republican U.S. Reps. Thomas Massie of Kentucky and Ted Poe of Texas, and Democrat Zoe Lofgren of California attached an amendment to an appropriations bill to prevent the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) from cooperating with NSA surveillance. The bill was for appropriations that cover the departments of Commerce and

Who's to Blame For California's Water Shortage? Look In A Mirror
We Californians are to blame when it comes to our water shortage -- but ultimately for reasons most of us never contemplate.
The problem is our willingness to cede to single-party control in our state. Regardless of which side of the aisle you purport to stand on, putting all our water through one filter is proving to be disastrous for a multitude of reasons.
We truly lose due to the simple fact that California is a 'blue' state and doesn't look to change its voting patterns nationally anytime

Does The Public Have A Right to Your Privacy?
WASHINGTON, D.C. -- WTOP reported Tuesday that District of Columbia Mayor Muriel Bowser wants Freedom of Information Act exemptions extended to include footage taken from body cameras worn by city police. Bowser, who introduced the FOIA language in her budget bill, says the exemption would protect the privacy of city residents who interact with local police officers.

Don't Be Deceived By The Federal Reserve; It Is Not An 'Independent' Agency
WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Audit the Fed, a cause championed by former U.S. Representative Ron Paul (R-Texas), was picked up by Paul's son, U.S. Senator Rand Paul (R-Ky.), early on in his political career.
For some voters, including more libertarian-minded voters, auditing the central bank is as important of an issue as raising the minimum wage is for progressives. Now that Sen. Paul has entered the 2016 presidential election, the issue may get a little more attention.
The goal behind auditing the Fe

Experts Say Net Neutrality Just Another Issue Hijacked By Partisan Politics
WASHINGTON, DC -- The FCC's net neutrality ruling has many politicians up in arms.
Congressional Republicans launched a "fact-finding" mission on Tuesday about the ruling, and potential GOP presidential candidate Jeb Bush called the ruling "crazy." But these positions may be motivated more by politics than by concern about the new rules, according to Tim Karr, senior director of strategy at Free Press.
"There is nothing in the new rules themselves that are cause for concern," Karr said.
