US Courts Finally See The Politics of Restrictive Voting Laws
Photo: www.cit.uscourts.gov
Contrary to popular belief, the right to vote was not guaranteed by the Constitution. The Constitution implies a voting process but neither describes it nor identifies who the voters will be. The 15th Amendment, ratified in 1870, during the post-Civil War reconstruction period, prohibited individuals from being allowed to vote on the basis of race, even if the person was a former slave. However, this amendment was meaningless in the former confederacy, as voting laws

CNN projects President Barack Obama will win re-election by taking the state of Ohio.
[Update 8:15 PM PST]
With the projection of Oregon going to Obama, statistically speaking it is very unlikely Romney will be able to pull off a victory because one more state will put the president over the top.
CNN also projects Missouri to be carried by Mitt Romney.

An Electoral Vote Tie: What Would Happen?
It’s the morning of Wednesday, November 7, 2012, and every major news outlet is reporting that for the first time in nearly two centuries, there is a tie in the electoral vote. Both Mitt Romney and Barack Obama have secured 269 votes. Fire begins to rain down from the sky, the ground begins to quake, and Republicans and Democrats lose their minds.
Okay, so maybe the imagery of apocalyptic events is bit extreme, but the reaction people will see in the wake of reports that there is a projected ti

Ohio Uncounted Votes Could Delay Election Results
Credit: cbsnews.com
It's that time of year again, and voters across America are anxiously counting down the days until the all-telling "Election Day," which this year lands on November 6. With early voting and absentee ballots, however, "Election Day" started long before November 6th, and might end weeks after.

Electoral College Prediction - Obama vs Romney
Going to the website 270towin.com and awarding each toss-up state to the leader of that state's poll average from Real Clear Politics, I came up with this Electoral College prediction:
Obama: 303
Romney: 235
That's Nevada, Colorado, Iowa, Wisconsin, Michigan, Pennsylvania (which isn't a swing state), Ohio, and Virginia for Obama and North Carolina and Florida for Romney.Virginia is the closest at +0.3 for Obama, but even then it would only make it 290-248 for Obama.
Entering this exercise I

Super PAC Money Has Been Flowing Freely to Grab Last Voters
Mitt Romney has been appealing to four blue-leaning states much more aggressively this week, launching ads totaling $1.8 million in Minnesota and New Mexico this past Wednesday. In an attempt to “buy” the traditionally Democratic states, the pro-Romney Super PAC Restore Our Future has been dumping money into advertising in these crucial states. PAC and Super PAC money has been flowing freely in a last minute attempt to gain with undecided voters.
In a tit-for-tat of funding, every state in whic

Trade Deficits Can't be Cured with Cheap Towels
"Free" trade takes income from workers in the tradable goods sector and transfers it to government employees and the service sector. For workers in the tradable goods sector, income losses are much greater than the gains from cheaper towels. Of course, cheap towels don't help the unemployed much at all.
However, this isn't about what's good for one group of people versus another. The well being of America as a whole is the real question. Take a look at the chart below. Manufacturing employment
