US Rep. Says Social Media Is Killing Political Parties
"Just to make sure you know what you just said, you're a Republican advocating for the Republican Party to fall apart."
That's from the teaser intro to a half-hour interview by Reason Magazine's Matt Welch, of US Rep. Justin Amash (R-Mich.). Amash is a Republican congressman from Michigan with a very independent streak, a libertarian understanding of government, and a social media savvy approach to legislating and representing his voting constituents.
Amash's answer?
"Well, I think, over time

The Morning Report: July 21, 2017
Senate Republicans threw a curveball into the complicated Obamacare repeal vote. The GOP introduced yet another amendment to their bill to replace the Affordable Care Act.
The new version, posted on a Senate website, removes the so-called Cruz amendment. Authored by Texas Senator Ted Cruz, the amendment would have allowed insurers to sell much-less-generous, and hence less expensive, individual health plans. It's not clear if that amendment will remain out of the bill as Senate Republican leader

The Search For 50 Votes
It was an all nighter for GOP Senate leaders as they search for 50 votes to open a debate on ObamaCare repeal-and-replace legislation.
And a change in tactics.
The meeting between lawmakers came after a scolding at the White House from President Trump, who demanded they come up with a solution to the repeal and replace ObamaCare.
The move reverses course from their plans to move to a vote on a straight repeal of ObamaCare.
It’s not clear if they will have any more luck this time in corrallin

As GOP senators roll out their newest version of health care reform, a new Gallup poll shows U.S. adults are as divided as Congress on the government's best approach to reforms.

Texas, Arizona Take Vastly Different Approaches with Voter Fraud
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SD5b1ZQ1h6c
Texas and Arizona are relatively close geographically, but when it comes to handling voter fraud, they're not in the same hemisphere.
This week, Dallas County announced its first indictment in the ongoing voter fraud investigation that resulted in hundreds of mail-in ballots being sequestered during the May municipal elections and last month's runoff.
Miguel Hernandez has been formally charged with the second-degree felony, illegal voting. It took t

The California Travel Ban No One is Talking About
The "travel ban" is a clickbait phrase that's become a popular subject for the 24-hour news cycle. SCOTUS's decision to mostly reinstate President Trump's ban is certainly getting most of the attention, but there's another travel ban that should be making headlines -- but has largely gone unnoticed.
California has banned state-funded and state-sponsored travel to EIGHT states that it says has laws discriminating against LGBTQ groups.
The eight states are: Texas, Kentucky, Alabama, North Caroli

How the Fair Representation Act Would Empower Voters in the Southwest
The United States continues to fall short in fairly reflecting its diversity in elected offices. Our widespread use of a winner-take-all rule -- that is, one where the biggest group of voters can win 100% of representation -- presents a challenge to candidates who are not the preferred choice of a majority of voters.
The problem of under-representation is less acute in the U.S. House than statewide races, but is still significant.
With the upcoming launch of the Fair Representation Act, legisl

Nevada Voter Suppression: Democrats Blocking Independent Voter Access
Following the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision in 2013 that struck down pre-clearance requirements from the Voting Rights Act, Republican-controlled state legislatures jumped at the opportunity to impose restrictions on who could register and vote.
Laws implemented in Wisconsin, North Carolina, and Florida are said to have had major impacts on the outcome of the presidential election in those states. Republicans in Arizona, Texas, Kansas, as well as others continue to explore legislation clearly a
