Texas: Sixth State To Say No Thanks To Medicaid Expansion
Texas: Sixth State To Say No Thanks To Medicaid Expansion
Governor Rick Perry of Texas joins a list of growing states who say they will refuse to implement Medicaid expansion in their states. The one-time presidential hopeful stated yesterday, “If anyone was in doubt, we in Texas have no intention to implement so-called state exchanges or to expand Medicaid under Obamacare.” Gov. Rick Perry’s decision makes Texas the sixth state to opt out of Medicaid expansion so far. Texas joins Florida, Louisiana, Mississippi, South Carolina, and Wisconsin in using

Taser Deaths in Vermont: Time for a Moratorium
Taser Deaths in Vermont: Time for a Moratorium
Taser deaths by police in Vermont and elsewhere clearly show that it is time for a moratorium on what the UN calls a "torture weapon." On the evening of June 20th in Thetford VT, Macadam Mason was just another all-but-anonymous 39-year-old artist, an alcoholic sober three years, a father of three who had epilepsy and mental health issues in the bargain.  He’d had a grand mal seizure the day before and was suffering what, for him, were the typical disorienting after effects that usually lasted f

America Then & Now: 1790 Census to 2010 [INFOGRAPHIC]
July 4th, 2012 marks the United States’ 236th birthday. Although still a relatively young nation, the U.S. has transformed into an influential world power with a large and diverse population. The implementations of Decennial Censuses were included into the Constitution to acquire the enumeration of the American people every ten years, to be used for apportionment of seats in the House of Representatives among the states. They also have proven to be a great way to mark the constant changing U.S.

GlaxoSmithKline Pays Largest Health Care Fraud Penalty To Date
GlaxoSmithKline LLC pleads guilty this week to a $3 billion fine for illegally promoting unapproved drugs as well as failing to disclose the drugs safety precautions. Deputy Attorney General James M. Coles said the $3 billion fine is the largest penalty ever paid by a drug company for healthcare fraud. As part of the penalty, government officials will supervise GlaxSmithKline for the next five years to ensure the corporation’s acquiescence. “Let me be clear, we will not tolerate health care fr

Barack Obama & The End Time
Barack Obama & The End Time
Never give in. Never give in. Never, never, never, never – in  nothing, great or small, large or petty – never give in, except  to convictions of honour and good sense.-Winston Churchill To the students at Harrow, 1941 I had breakfast recently with Padres president Tom Garfinkel and former state finance director Steve Peace. Normally the talk is baseball talk, not the state of the universe. But this time baseball was a footnote and the state of our country and world were the objects of our atte

Ron Paul Delegate Count Rises from Romney Missteps and Frivolous Lawsuit
Last week, IVN commented on a lawsuit brought by alleged delegates to the Republican National Convention. The Republican National Committee, while stating that suit was frivolous at the same time organized all the named defendants into a united defense against this litigation. There is no indication yet that the complaint in the action was served on any defendant or that the RNC has voluntarily appeared and moved to take any pretrial actions. What is clear: Ron Paul's delegate count continues to

Is It Time to Reform the Electoral College?
Is It Time to Reform the Electoral College?
Following the controversies surrounding the presidential election of 2000, in which George W. Bush lost the popular vote but won the presidency, there was renewed interest in reforming the Electoral College system. That interest has held steady over the course of the last decade. In a Gallup survey from late last year, 62% of those polled said they would prefer that the president be elected by a direct popular vote rather than via the indirect system characteristic of the Electoral College. The

Most Annoying in Politics: Ken Bennett
Most Annoying in Politics: Ken Bennett
Arizona's Secretary of State Ken Bennett made national headlines last month for threatening to keep Barack Obama off the Arizona ballot in November, still unconvinced in the authenticity of the president's birth certificate released by the White House last year. After public ridicule, it seems like the No. 2 elected official in Arizona has given up on the birther issue and is now developing a conspiracy theory to ensure that President Obama is sent home, "wherever home is," he adds. In a June 14

Rick Santorum: Ron Paul \Looking for a Platform Fight\
In light of former Senator Rick Santorum's recent comments on ABC's This Week, it is clear GOP social conservatives are becoming increasingly worried about the presence, and power, of Dr. Ron Paul at the Republican National Convention. In the case of a divided Republican Party, if Governor Mitt Romney is going to have to choose between Dr. Paul and Sen. Santorum in Tampa, he has to go with Dr. Paul. In an earlier posting by IVN, we pointed out that at some point Gov. Romney was going to have to
