Mark Sanford Wins Special Election
(Credit: fitsnews.com)
Mark Sanford wins the South Carolina special election and may have just pulled off one of the more remarkable political comebacks in recent memory - certainly the most bizarre. At 54-45, my prediction of a Sanford 51-48 victory was a little tame, but at least my ego remains largely intact! Turn-out, as I said all along, was key. Turn-outs in special elections are notoriously small, but this one blew away the turn-out from the primary in March. The more Republicans who cam

South Carolina Special Election Today
(Credit: fitsnews.com)
It's just about 4:00 pm Central Time and there are about two hours before the polls close in the South Carolina special election between Mark Sanford and Elizabeth Colbert Busch. It's been one of the more bizarre races that I can recall, but that may be compounded by the fact that it's the only race going on right now.
Ordinarily, this would have been a Republican landslide. It's a heavily Republican district, so even with all of Mark Sanford's baggage, it's really just

Spending Wrap-up For South Carolina Special Election
Going into election day on Tuesday, May 7, Elizabeth Colbert Busch (Democrat) and former Governor Mark Sanford (Republican) are closely matched in both poll numbers and funds in the South Carolina special election. The tense first and only debate between the two last week has split spectators on the outcome. However, most favor Colbert Busch given Sanford's recent trespassing debacle.
Likewise, competing polls have either Colbert Bush leading slightly or tied with Sanford. The race has become s

Named the "South Carolina Freedom of Health Care Protection Act," the legislation passed 65-39 in the Republican-controlled House. If enacted, the bill will:

South Carolina Senator Jim Demint's departure from public office to head up The Heritage Foundation, a conservative think tank, further signifies a reconstruction period for the Republican brand at large. Governor Nikki Haley, the state's first female governor, appointed representative Tim Scott to fill the empty seat.
Like Haley, Scott is a staunch tea partier, and will be the first African-American senator in South Carolina.
In a historically hyper-conservative state, at lea

Does Budget Sequestration Work?
Credit: AP
The Budget Control Act of 2011, the center of the current fiscal debacle, was passed in August of last year as a way to ensure that Congress substantively address the budget crisis by the end of 2012. The bill established sequestration cuts to occur from 2013 to 2021 if deficit reduction goals weren't met.
These cuts are set to come out of the non-exempt defense budget (9.4 percent, $55 billion) as well as programs like Medicare (2 percent, $11 billion), and social programs (between

Five Things to Watch This Week
The Supreme Court decided it will address the issue of same-sex marriage on Friday and will make a decision on the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) and California’s Proposition 8, which bans same-sex marriage in California. While this will certainly be an issue to watch in the future, the court will not hear cases until March. However, there are other important things to watch this week:
