U.S. Rep. Mia Love Introduces 'One Subject at a Time Act'
AKRON, Ohio, Feb. 3, 2016 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- "It's been a long time since Congress needed a majority to pass a law," says Jim Babka, President of DownsizeDC.org, Inc. "But that could change, thanks to Representative Mia Love of Utah. She has introduced our 'One Subject at a Time Act' (OSTA) in the House (HR 4335).""OSTA requires each bill Congress passes to be about one subject only," Babka explains. "This would end the practice of clustering unrelated measures into one package. Congress

After Traveling 14K Miles, Independent POTUS Candidate Learns One Crucial Truth About America
The spirit of America is strong; the state of our union is fragile.
That is my conclusion after 100 days driving 14,128 miles through 34 states as an independent candidate for President of the United States.
I met with over 1,000 people individually and in small groups. I mostly stayed away from big cities and college campuses. I had learned on two short campaign trips before this long one that very few Americans understand there are independent candidates running for office so I got in the ha

Virginia Loyalty Oath: Party Over Country
The fact that Virginia’s Republican Party wants voters to take a Party loyalty oath as a condition of voting in the publicly-funded and administered presidential primary shouldn’t surprise anyone.
In Utah, the Republican Party recently closed their previously open primary through a legal challenge.
In doing so, the Republicans relied on precedent set by the Democratic Party in the Jones case from California 15 years ago.
It's the same precedent that is being argued in Montana, Hawaii, New Mex

5 Politicians Standing Firm Against More Surveillance After Paris
Since the Paris terrorist attacks on November 13, various mainstream news outlets have noted that the politics of surveillance have shifted. A shift would indicate that instead of rolling back surveillance policies in favor of more privacy, more invasive policies could be enacted.
U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio used the attacks to accuse fellow Republican presidential candidates Ted Cruz and Rand Paul of forcing a "weakening of our intelligence-gathering capabilities" that ultimately "leaves America vul

Utah Judge Strikes Down Open Primaries; Says Party Rights Trump Voter Rights
U.S. District Judge
David Nuffer ruled Wednesday that Utah cannot force political parties to allow non-members (e.g. unaffiliated voters) to participate in "their" primary elections, striking down the open primaries provision in SB54."While a state has the authority to regulate elections and even require that political parties hold a primary election … state may not force a political party to allow unaffiliated voters in its primary election," Nuffer wrote. "Such a requirement is a 'severe' bu

Repairing The GOP Brand May Be Harder than Speaker Ryan Realizes
Since his election to the House Speaker position on October 29, 2015, with necessary support from Tea Party supporters (the Freedom Caucus), Paul Ryan stated that he is hopeful about finding common ground with House Republicans. Speaker Ryan wants to convey the message that Republicans have a vision and can govern.
He is aware of the reputational damage to the Republican brand from a lack of vision and partisan gridlock that dominated Congress since Republicans took control of the House in 2011
