Opinion: Filling Special Interest Pockets At The Heart Of Junior Lifeguard HQ Proposal?
The proposed Aquatic Safety and Junior Lifeguard Facility is a beautiful design for a praiseworthy organization that we all can support in concept.
The Junior Lifeguard program provides an invaluable service working for safeguarding the aquatic safety of young people.
The important question, however, is whether a multi-million dollar, 9,000 sf facility that would serve almost exclusively administrative purposes for the Junior Lifeguard Foundation is an appropriate use of dedicated parkland?

The One Strategy Dems Could Use to Stop Trump's SCOTUS Nomination No One Is Talking About
Donald Trump and his GOP have now set the Democrats up for another political whooping — this time over Trump’s Supreme Court nominee, Brett Kavanaugh. The Dems are predictably initiating their “fight” to successfully resist the nomination by attempting to wrangle a couple of GOP votes against Trump’s nominee, while all but conceding defeat at the outset.
As soon as the official confirmation process begins (which is perilously close), barring an unforeseen development of material consequence, th

SCOTUS Renders Its Own "State of the Union" in Janus Decision
SAN DIEGO, CALIF. – The United States Supreme Court’s ruling in Janus v. AFSCME may serve as a landmark decision. While traditional media outlets and the Democratic establishment are already discrediting the decision, the gnashing of teeth may be relatively short-sighted. The very basis of this decision could be used as precedent to attack the Court’s decision in Citizens United v. Federal Election Commission, 558 U.S. 310 (2010).
Both cases were predicated on First Amendment protections. The J

A Tough, But Compassionate Proposal to Fix the Two-Party Immigration Disaster
The president’s policy of separating immigrant families from their children at the border is an appalling reaction to an immigration problem that both parties helped create. It goes against every value for which this country – as a beacon of freedom, human rights and hope – has long stood, and brought worldwide scorn, deservedly so.
Let’s be clear: immigrant families arriving at the border to claim asylum, to escape the violence in their own country or simply to start a new and better life here

Supreme Court Punts on Partisan Gerrymandering Decision
The Supreme Court refused to weigh in on the issue of partisan gerrymandering in two cases out of Wisconsin (Gill v. Whitford) and Maryland (Benisek v. Lamone). The justices sent Gill v. Whitford back down to a lower court, while Maryland was dismissed unanimously.
In Benisek v. Lamone, the justices upheld a lower court's decision not to issue a preliminary injunction to block the 2011 congressional maps drawn by the Democratic-controlled state legislature. The high court is sticking with a dec

May Was A Monumental Month for Independents
It’s been a while! However, no matter how little we’ve written about independent candidates and organizations over the past month, actions continue to be taken by those who look to change the two-party system.
Let’s start with Unite America and the candidates that fall under their umbrella. Neal Simon, running for U.S. Senate in Maryland, had a fantastic month while opening his new campaign office.

Measures On The Brink? SoccerCity and SDSU West Heading To Court
"I don't recall this ever happening."~ Michael Vu, San Diego County Registrar of Voters
County Registrar Michael Vu has seen a lot in his time as County Registrar, but when considering the possibility that the SoccerCity and SDSU West initiatives might be removed from the November General election ballot after each gathered enough valid signatures and were directed to be placed on the ballot by the San Diego City Council, even Vu was left to ponder the unique nature of this.
