This coming week African cuisine will be honored as the first San Diego African Restaurant Week is taking place until Sunday October 28.

This event is organized by a number of African businesses to promote African restaurants, business, and culture thorough San Diego.The participatory restaurants, situated for the most part in the El Cajon Boulevard district, will be offering on the model of the San Diego Restaurant Week fixed menus including appetizer, main course and desert for $15.

Seven restaurants are participating in the event: Awash Ethiopian Restaurant, Fatuma Restaurant, Flavor of East Africa, Island Spice, Asmara Restaurant, Laylah's Patties & Jerk and the Red Sea restaurant. They will take you on a journey into east African cuisine as they provide Kenyan, Ethiopian, Eritrean and Somali delicacies as well as a trip in Jamaican territory.

This week is not only a great opportunity to benefit from good deals but to really discover African culture as many activities will be provided throughout the week.  You might want to stop by any of the restaurants to take cooking classes and learn the secrets of Kenyan, Somalian, Ethiopian or Jamaican cuisine. Or you might prefer to participate in an Ethiopian coffee and tea ceremony that will be hosted every night of the week at Asmara restaurant.
