Former presidential candidate and Forward Party Founder Andrew Yang kicked off 2025 with some predictions about what will happen this year in the US political landscape on his podcast, Forward.

Yang flexed his record in foresight, having called the initial rematch between Biden and Trump, the never-Trump Republicans rallying behind someone like Nikki Haley, Biden dropping out, and Trump's re-election.

In 2025, Yang made two major predictions. The first is that the "Republican unity tour is going to be short-lived." With a 50.6% majority in the House, Yang predicts factious food fighting.

More specifically, Yang believes House Republicans will have a hard time passing a continuation of the Trump tax cuts because of a handful a budget hawks who will raise issue with increased deficits.

There have already been early warning signs of increased congressional dysfunction despite single-party control of both chambers.

The second big prediction Yang made concerns the 2028 presidential race. Conventional wisdom holds that candidates wait until after the midterms to announce their campaigns. However, Yang thinks 2025 will be different.

He predicts a Democratic candidate-- someone with a message they think they can run on -- will announce their bid 3 years out.

Yang reflected on his own presidential bid which he announced in early 2018 for the 2020 election. No one paid attention to it because of the midterms, but he said he was able to start building base support well in advanced.

"If you think about the Dem field for '28, think about a bunch of the folks that are almost certain to run. I am talking Gavin Newsom, Josh Shapiro, Wes Moore, Ro Khanna, JB Pritzker, probably Klobuchar, on and on," he said.

"If you are anyone below that tier and you declare after, no one is going to" care.

Yang added that the Democratic Party is also fragmented, and no one knows what direction the party is headed in the immediate future. Thus, the window is open to get some attention.

To clarify, Yang's prediction does not include exploratory committees. His prediction is that someone will emphatically declare their 2028 campaign in 2025.
