Ron Paul Delegate Count Rises from Romney Missteps and Frivolous Lawsuit
Ron Paul Delegate Count Rises from Romney Missteps and Frivolous Lawsuit
Last week, IVN commented on a lawsuit brought by alleged delegates to the Republican National Convention. The Republican National Committee, while stating that suit was frivolous at the same time organized all the named defendants into a united defense against this litigation. There is no indication yet that the complaint in the action was served on any defendant or that the RNC has voluntarily appeared and moved to take any pretrial actions. What is clear: Ron Paul's delegate count continues to

Ron Paul "Supporters'" Flawed Lawsuit Against the RNC
In terms of bizarre twists, last week, a lawsuit was filed in United States District Court for the Central District of California – entitled Delegates To The Republican National Convention vs. Republican National Committee [SACV 12- 00927 DOC (JPRx)]. The Paul campaign is keeping its distance for good reason – it is a very flawed suit. The United States District Court Judge in this action is David O. Carter, a no-nonsense judge and a former prosecutor. While the Republican delegate selection pr

Rick Santorum: Ron Paul \Looking for a Platform Fight\
In light of former Senator Rick Santorum's recent comments on ABC's This Week, it is clear GOP social conservatives are becoming increasingly worried about the presence, and power, of Dr. Ron Paul at the Republican National Convention. In the case of a divided Republican Party, if Governor Mitt Romney is going to have to choose between Dr. Paul and Sen. Santorum in Tampa, he has to go with Dr. Paul. In an earlier posting by IVN, we pointed out that at some point Gov. Romney was going to have to

Teachers Support Independent Greg Laskaris for Assembly District 77
The American Federation of Teachers represents community college teachers and staff throughout San Diego County. We take our political endorsement process seriously and invest a considerable amount of time researching all candidates before determining which candidates we will support. We continue to see the numbers of voters who register without party affiliation continue to grow despite the lack of any active campaign to drive registration in this direction. Thus, we have begun to conduct rese

Ron Paul Halts Spending on Presidential Campaign
Ron Paul Halts Spending on Presidential Campaign
In an email sent to reporters Monday morning, Texas Congressman Ron Paul announced he is suspending his campaign in the remaining 11 primary states. He cited a lack of resources as the cause, explaining that participating in the primary states "would take many tens of millions of dollars we simply do not have." He will, however, continue to "take leadership positions, win delegates, and carry a strong message to the Republican National Convention that Liberty is the way of the future.” While fu

Moderate vs. Conservative Republican in San Diego AD-77
The upcoming primary in San Diego Assembly District 77 highlights the big changes in this year’s open primary season. It’s no longer just Republican vs. Democrat anymore, but candidates of the same party against each other as well as against the opposition party candidate and independents. AD-77 encompasses northern San Diego and Poway. It went for Obama in 2008 by three points but Jerry Brown got stomped by fifteen points in 2010. Basically, it leans Republican. The race is mainly between betw

Forget The Nomination: Ron Paul's "Revolution" Is Taking Over The Republican Party
What little commentary we've seen from the media on Ron Paul's silent coup presently underway in the Republican Party has focused mostly on its implications for the 2012 Republican Primary and whether Paul can hold back Romney's delegate count just long enough to ensure a brokered convention, which is the only feasible scenario in which Paul could emerge as the party's nominee. But perhaps more important and far-reaching in its implications for the future of national politics in the US, is not

Ron Paul's Winning Weekend Causing GOP Headaches
Ron Paul's Winning Weekend Causing GOP Headaches
Since the Republican Presidential nominating contest began last year, the Independent Voter Network has posted a number of stories concerning the effect Dr. Ron Paul's candidacy has had on the process. The reason for the focus on Dr. Paul is because his bid acts as a textbook example of how an insurgent candidacy successfully challenges party establishment. Whether it was antipathy to Hilary Clinton or Democratic fears of her effect on down ballot races in their states, President Obama had subs
