Independent Voters Largely Unconcerned about Gun Control
In last Tuesday’s debate, Nina Gonzalez, one of the undecided voters selected to attend the town hall debate, asked a question about gun control: "President Obama, during the Democratic National Convention in 2008, you stated you wanted to keep AK-47s out of the hands of criminals. What has your administration done or planned to do to limit the availability of assault weapons?" Obama answered the question by coming out in support of renewing the federal assault weapons ban that expired in 2004

Energy Policy, the Environment, and the Battle for the Senate
Current projections are that the Democrats will retain control of the Senate by a narrow margin. But that could change, particularly if Romney continues to surge and carry GOP Senate candidates along with him. Energy and environmental policy are areas where this really matters. The House of Representatives has passed numerous bills relating to energy and environmental issue over the past two years. These bills have died in the Senate, but that could change with a new Senate. Republicans in almo

The Youth Vote Unlikely To Be Strong Enough to Sway Election
The Youth Vote Unlikely To Be Strong Enough to Sway Election
Student voters at the University of Wisconsin-Madison cast their ballots in 2008. Photo: Bryce Richter The youth vote has the power to sway the 2012 elections but the millennial generation is not as likely to show up this Election Day. In 2008, the youth vote gave Obama an edge over McCain. Arthur Levine and Diane Dean, authors of "Generation on a Tightrope: A Portrait of Today's College Students," told Huffington Post that in 10 of the 12 battleground states, the numbers of college students a

Wisconsin Green Dedering Attempts to Distinguish Himself
Photo: http://dederingforwi.org The 78th Assembly District in Wisconsin covers Madison’s liberal west side and has not been seriously contested by a GOP candidate in decades. That does not mean, however, that Rep. Brett Hulsey, D-Madison, has not faced any opposition in his bid to remain a representative. He was elected to the Assembly in 2010 following the departure of Democrat Spencer Black, and his main challenge then came from Wisconsin Green Party candidate Ben Manski. Two years later, Hu

Vice Presidential Debate Aftermath: Next Stop, Wisconsin
Photo by Christopher Dilts for Obama for America The night after Barack Obama performed below expectations in his first presidential debate last week, he attempted to rebound by heading to the University of Wisconsin-Madison. On Bascom Hill, he sought to rouse supporters, energize his base, and appeal to the swing state’s independent voters. Vice President Joe Biden, while performing much better than Obama in the one and only Vice Presidential debate, similarly left the Bluegrass State to head

Vice Presidential Debate Conversations Could Change Election
Vice Presidential Debate Conversations Could Change Election
Photo credit: Charlie Neibergall(AP) Thursday's vice presidential debate got off to a heavy start, with moderator Martha Raddatz's first question posing the recent Libyan turmoil at the US embassy. The debate did not slow down from there. Social media was afire with vice presidential debate conversations and many media sources provided a play-by-play fact check of the candidate's claims. Biden was vivacious and, at times, vicious in his remarks.  No doubt, this is the Obama camp's response to
