Divided? Yes; Unprecedented? Not Even Close
Historical perspective can be marvelous for whatever ails you—especially if what ails you is the belief that things are worse in America today than they have ever been. This is almost never true. In the 230 or so years that we have been a country, we have been through—and overcome—a lot. At different points in the past, we have been more in debt, more divided, and more gridlocked than we are now.
And as difficult as it can be to believe when reading the comments section of any online news sourc

State Democrats Stand in the Way of Open Primaries in Kentucky
The Kentucky group of independents known as Independent Kentucky has fought for fair representation in the state since 2008. By focusing their efforts on opening the state's primary system, they have made good progress considering the partisan stronghold state Democrats have.
For three years in a row, up until 2012, a semi-open primary bill was introduced in Kentucky legislature, which Independent Kentucky Chairman Michael P.W. Lewis says has been their greatest achievement so far.“No one thoug

President's Election Commission Continues to Ignore Independent Voters
Source: Jonathan Lippincott
The president's Commission on Election Administration held their final public hearing on September 20 in Cincinnati, Ohio, where five independents from Ohio and Kentucky petitioned the commission for a redress of grievances regarding election issues that independents face across the country.
With 40 percent of the electorate registered as independent, it's not a stretch to say that independents are the largest group of suppressed voters in the country. But, whether

Syria, Chemical Weapons, and Ad Hominems
Interventionist hawks of the partisan variety sure are having a hard time holding a position on the Syrian civil war. Only the bipartisan War Party hawks of the John McCain and Lindsey Graham sort seem to think an attack on Syria is a good idea. But what about the conservatives who paint President Obama as "weak," (despite drones, spying, and Libya) for dragging his feet to an intervention Americans, and sometimes they, don't support? Why, continue the ad hominems, of course!

On Monday, Kentucky's Rand Paul became the first US Senator to vote against an FBI director's nomination since the death of J. Edgar Hoover in 1972. Lifting the hold Rand Paul had placed on nominee James Comey's confirmation over the legal justifications used for domestic use of drones -- otherwise known as Unmanned Aerial Vehicles -- for surveillance, a vote was held.
The nominee was eventually confirmed 93-1. Paul voted against him and Oregon's Democratic U.S. Senator

NJ Senate Candidate Voices Opposition to NSA Surveillance
Since whistleblower Edward Snowden released shocking revelations about a far-reaching national surveillance program, the issue of “Big Brother,” and exactly whom he is watching, has become a topic of intense debate. It would make sense, given the high-profile nature of this controversy, that New Jersey’s varied Senate hopefuls would express their personal views regarding the NSA’s surveillance of American citizens.
Thus far, it is Republican frontrunner Steve Lonegan, the hyper-conservative for
