# September war stats

In Afghanistan, 41 U.S. soldiers died, making it the deadliest September since the war began nine years ago, and nearly $9 billion was spent. In Iraq, 7 U.S. soldiers\* died, the war cost hit the $750 billion\* mark, and nearly seven months after parliamentary elections, a new government still had not been formed. In Pakistan, the CIA launched a record number of Drone strikes against suspected militants, killing dozens.

A flurry of [suicides](http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2010/09/30/AR2010093006496.html?ref=ivn.us) hit the Army base at Fort Hood, and Admiral Mullen, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, called the rising suicide rate in the US Military an "[emergency issue](http://swampland.blogs.time.com/2010/09/30/top-general-military-suicides-will-keep-rising/?ref=ivn.us)".

Finally, a new CNN [poll](http://articles.cnn.com/2010-09-29/politics/afghanistan.poll%5F1%5Fopinion-research-corporation-poll-sampling-error-new-national-poll?%5Fs=PM:POLITICS&ref=ivn.us) revealed that 60% of Republicans, 40% of Independents, and 20% of Democrats support the war in Afghanistan.
