Voters know the US political system is broken -- as do the people who create the very policies that control the system.

The national anti-corruption group RepresentUs recently posted a video in which the group's CEO, Joshua Graham Lynn, responds to exit interviews for retiring members of Congress conducted by the New York Times.

And what they have to say is -- frustrating.

First, members of Congress are well aware of the many ways the US political system is broken, especially when it comes to money. They had to raise hundreds of thousands of dollars to get and keep committee seats.

And when asked how Congress can be fixed? Well, the very people tasked with creating the nation's laws and the rules of their own institution say it is American voters who have to fix Congress.

Republican US Rep. Doug Lamborn (Colorado) says the issue must be addressed at its root -- and he is right. It starts with changing how we elect members of Congress, so they take accountability for the system they govern.
