Sierra Club San Diego has announced its endorsement of the SDSU West initiative.

Richard Miller, Development and Communications associate for SCSD told IVN San Diego, "SoccerCity is environmentally damaging. Ballot box land planning and the Sierra Club opposes the development and proposals like SoccerCity that uses the initiative process to bypass environmental review and convert public land to private profit."

Miller continued, "The initiative requires San Diego State University to be compliant with CEQA and will include a comprehensive and full environmental impact report, and will be holding open public hearings."

Friends of SDSU has released the following statement, “Friends of SDSU is incredibly proud to receive the Sierra Club’s unanimous endorsement of the SDSU West initiative. The Sierra Club’s endorsement honors SDSU West’s commitment to comply with the highest possible environmental standards, create a public and transparent planning process and ensure that the existing stadium site benefits all San Diegans. In endorsing our initiative, the Sierra Club reinforces SDSU West as the superior choice for Mission Valley and the City of San Diego.”

SoccerCity has not yet commented on the news of the endorsement.
