Matt Metzner commented on the post, Robert Reich: Three Cliffs Scarier Than the Fiscal Cliff, on the site IVN Editors' Blog 5 months, 2 weeks ago

There’s plenty of truth to these arguments. It’s sad to see that money comes first and the rest of the problems get passed down the line.

Matt Metzner commented on the post, Supreme Court Remains Silent on Same-Sex Marriage Appeals, on the site The Neutral Zone 5 months, 2 weeks ago

The Court will be asked to make a ruling at some point as laws and holdings differ between states and federal court districts.

Matt Metzner commented on the post, FDIC Reports Large Gains for Financial Institutions in Third Quarter, on the site Independent Voter Network 5 months, 2 weeks ago

A 6.6 percent jump seems like a huge leap within one year. The banking industry is leading the rest of the economy as unemployment levels decrease and consumer spending rises. I’m interested in how this affects […]

Matt Metzner commented on the post, Sufficient Support from Social Security Benefits in Jeopardy, on the site Independent Voter Network 5 months, 2 weeks ago

Raising the retirement age makes sense as life expectancy grows. We should be able to provide alternative options for young people who are paying into the program now with little expectation of return.

Matt Metzner commented on the post, Judge Rules SANDAG Transportation Plan Violates California Law, on the site IVN San Diego 5 months, 2 weeks ago

This ruling could have long term effects on San Diego regardless of its legal effects. This affords SANDAG the opportunity to create a more complete transportation strategy for the city.

Matt Metzner commented on the post, Hatch Act Reform Passes Unanimously in the Senate, on the site Independent Voter Network 5 months, 2 weeks ago

This is an interesting reform. On one hand we want federal employees to be able to run for office, but we don’t want them supporting candidates in a manner that may confuse their position with federal endorsement […]

Matt Metzner commented on the post, Americans Are at Odds over the Legalization of Marijuana, on the site Independent Voter Network 5 months, 2 weeks ago

These new laws do put citizens in a difficult position where the enforcement of federal law seems to be dictated by a whim. Advocates should look to the schedule 1 classification and push for reform there.

Matt Metzner commented on the post, Doha Round Hopes for Any Progress on Climate Change, on the site Independent Voter Network 5 months, 2 weeks ago

Many of these meetings fail to produce tangible results. It may take a smaller effort to create steps for moving forward rather than a large collective of countries.

Matt Metzner commented on the post, Supreme Court Allows Case Against Obamacare to Move Forward, on the site Independent Voter Network 5 months, 2 weeks ago

The optional procedure argument is compelling against abortions. But all medical procedures are optional as a patient can deny treatment for any condition, a prescription isn’t an order.
