Within the next few decades, the balance of political power will shift from the old guard that still controls the public dialogue. The media industry, especially with respect to politics, has traditionally been a top-to-bottom operation: a major network determines that something is a breaking story, and then it becomes a breaking story. That is about to change.
Today’s younger generations understand that, within our social circles, we develop a credibility and trustworthiness that is judged by our peers on a personal level. And as the younger generation, who has lived with ever-expanding social circles, become tomorrow’s journalists, we will increasingly have the ability to break big stories not by virtue of the people we work for, but by as a bi-product of the reputations we have built for trust.
IVN’s goal is to seek to improve public dialogue by providing independent information, presenting various viewpoints, and encouraging thoughtful discussion. IVN vows to respect the importance of dissenting opinions, and to only bring information, options, and ideas to the public in a non-partisan and unbiased manner.
IVN is not your traditional news source. It is a non-profit organization that provides a portal for you to distribute the news that you create. Other than the requirement that published content meet our etiquette guidelines, IVN does not dictate the political issues or tendencies of your journalism.
By joining IVN as a student, you have a unique opportunity to start building credibility and exposure as a journalist for a respected news source, while maintaining your independence as an individual. We even encourage journalists to promote their own site and political causes.
