The figures on the government campaign known as the War on Drugs indicate that the prohibition efforts have been a failure. The government has spent over $1 trillion to prevent illegal drug use and distribution, but the statistics show that ten percent of the American population use an illegal substance of some kind and use among minors is up from a decade ago.

When we decide to stop listening to the alcohol and cigarette lobbies that do not want another legal drug like marijuana, we might be able to put all that money for better use.

I think the first step is to inform people that we’re spending an atrocious amount of money on this and why and where it is failing. This infographic is one of the coolest things I’ve seen in regards to this issue and I’m interested to see how the young generation reacts to this as they become older and more politically aware.

We would like to think drug use among high school seniors is something we can act on, but we’re independent thinkers. Humans will try what they want to try and do what the like to do.
