Sounding Off: “Fed Up With the Presidential Campaign?”

Politico’s The Arena asked current and former policymakers today, “Fed up with the presidential campaign?“. The question is in relation to a recent story at the political network on reporters’ disdain for the current national election cycle.
One quote from former Missouri State Rep. Jason Grill was particularly interesting:
I think the silent majority of America is completely fed up with partisanship and shares the same sentiment with the political reporters on this presidential campaign.
People want solutions to problems not continued gridlock. The moment of this presidential campaign that hopefully will give Americans and political reporters some relief are the three presidential and one vice presidential debate.
Do you agree with his opinion? Do you think the debates will elevate the discourse?

If the debates contain only Obama and Romney, we’re just going to have the usual dog and pony show. If Gary Johnson and Jill Stein get in on the action (though unlikely), then we might see some *real* elevated discourse.

The Debates are so regulated as to who can be on them, I do not think they will show anything. If they made these open to all Candidates, then it might have more of an effect.
The one thing is though, that Obama is a great Orator and liar, it will be hard to know what is real with him and not. I think many will be like me, and just assume that everything he says is a lie, and be safe that way, and closer to the truth.

I agree with Craig and Dan. The current system that we have will not allow any intellectual debates, because it would defunct both of the establishment candidates. Lettting all parties debate issues and actually making them answer the questions truthfully and completely is the only way that we will ever have a good president in the oval office, but that would mean that the big money corporations would lose their subsidy support from the federal government, and they will not let that happen.

I think the jury’s in on what a pander-fest the presidential debates will be, provided only Obama and Romney are allowed to participate. Though I must admit it will be fun to see how Romney’s robot-like persona measures up to Obama’s silky smooth swag.

I agree that the general american public is fed up with the way politics work. We want solutions not continual arguing & pointing the finger at the other side. Until we are able to come to the table with solutions rather than fight with the opposing side we will never move forward.
