This is actually pretty cute and the production values aren’t bad…
“Pups of Liberty” Trailer:
What cracks me up is how they pit dogs against cats.
“NO laws without paws! No laws without paws!” <– lol
Teaching children about American history and government is important. Do you think a film like this is a useful tool toward that end, or mostly just entertainment?

I think that it is a good way to introduce historical facts to children. But simply putting the King of England and the British as cats , and american as dogs (and we know how much american love dogs) is a bit too black and white. Because the dogs were cats a few generation ago.

Yeah it’s kind of historically misleading, isn’t it, Lucas? Guess that might answer the question. Not necessarily such a great education tool. Pretty entertaining though.

Then again, many of the revolutionaries saw themselves as unique and different from their cousins over the Atlantic, and believed the differences were only becoming more pronounced. Maybe they saw themselves as just as different from the British as dogs are from cats. Jury’s still out for me on this one…

I’m not sure how I feel about this kind of indoctrination; it is a bit creepy and reminds me of world war II propaganda or something along those lines.

I think that film can definitely be a useful tool, but a minute and a half long video is an oversimplification. That this point I think it leans more towards propaganda because of the allegory it’s creating. Pup giving out newspapers is an obvious symbol of freedom of the press.

I think it is wonderful to put history in terms the children can understand. As a child I was so bored by what my history teachers tried to teach…much forgotten.
