Rhode Island

Rhode Island has had an independent streak for its entire history. Originally founded as a haven for religious freedom, Rhode Island would become the first colony to declare independence from British rule and the very last to ratify the US Constitution. The Ocean State has more registered Independent voters than Republican and Democratic voters combined. In 2010, Rhode Island became one of the few states to elect an Independent governor in recent history.
