New York is one of the most influential and highly populated states in the union. The Empire State is also home to New York City, ranked, just above London, as the most influential global city in the world. New York is a major center of finance and culture, and has historically served as the gateway of Western immigration into the United States. It is also the single greatest source of political fundraising in the United States for both major political parties, with four of the top five zip codes in the nation for political donations in Manhattan alone.
