Roads, highways, bridges, power plants, waterways, and buildings need to be significantly upgraded. However, the financial reality dictates that such ambitious infrastructure projects must be properly prioritized and funded within the bounds of a budget. Critical upgrades must be undertaken with transparency, accountability, and frugality at a time when the state is facing years of enormous deficits. Independent voters will be looking to balance economic feasibility with much-needed infrastructure enhancement over the next few years.

Serious questions are being asked about the viability and affordability of California High Speed Rail. The project was approved by voters in Nov. 2008, allocating almost $10 billion in bonds. When and if completed, it would link San Francisco and Los Angeles with trains capable of going 220 mph, making the trip in 2 ½ hours.

On Tuesday August 3, the Alta Wind Energy Center (AWEC) officially broke ground in Tehachapi Pass. When completed, it could be three times larger than any existing wind farm in the US, and will output a mammoth 3 gigawatts.
