Public sector unions play such a large role in making it exceedingly difficult to fire cops who engage in misconduct/criminality. That, and the fact that individual police officers cannot be sued for damages means that us, the taxpayers, get stuck with the bill when states and localities must foot the bill for damage settlements resulting from misconduct. I’d posit that eliminating both public sector unions and qualified immunity for law enforcement would reform the kind of behavior laid out in the image above in a hurry.
