Wisconsin Recall As Told By Instagram
Author: Jane Susskind
Tuesday, voters of Wisconsin will decide whether or not to recall Republican Gov. Scott Walker. As one of the most expensive elections in American history, the media has been covering the story in print and online. Meanwhile, residents and reporters take to Instagram to tell their story.
- Saturday morning, around 4,000 gathered to hear keynote speakers stress the importance of Tuesday's recall election in Wisconsin at the Racine Tea Party rally in support of Wisc. Governor Scott Walker.
- Rep. Paul Ryan told the Wisconsin crowd, “You know what? On Tuesday we save Wisconsin, and on Nov. 6, Wisconsin saves America.”
- Ryan didn't mention anything about Romney specifically (nor VP rumors) in his very short speech -- main focus on #wisconsinrecall
- Both Governor Walker and Democratic challenger Tom Barrett attended the Brown Co. Dairy Breakfast during the final weekend before the recall election.
- Friday, Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett held his own rally in Pere Marquette Park, with an appearance from former president Bill Clinton.
- Clinton spoke to the importance of recalling Governor Scott Walker: "Ordinarily, I'm against recall elections. I went to try to fight one in California...But sometimes, it is the only way to avoid a disastrous course. Sometimes, it is the only way to avoid being misunderstood."
- Journalists and photographers aren't the only ones using Instagram to tell the Wisconsin recall story. Politicos from across the state of Wisconsin are uploading photos representing their sentiment towards the recall election, showcasing the sights and sounds of Wisconsin in the week leading up to the election. Here are a few creative photos from Instagrammers (igers) who have successfully used the social media platform to tell the Wisconsin recall story.
